After two years of work, I am thrilled to have launched my book Endo Smart in February 2025. I set out to write this book after spending years struggling with various unexplained symptoms that I could never quite get to the route of. I had so many unanswered questions — about what endometriosis really is, how it impacts the body (in ways that aren’t discussed on general health pages), and why my body was reacting the way it was.
I had always yearned for the time to truly immerse myself in research — to dissect medical papers, untangle complex information, and understand everything I needed (and wanted) to know. Ironically, or perhaps fatefully, the moment I finally sat down to start this project came during one of the most testing periods of my life — a time when I was struggling deeply with my health.
By then, I had undergone two surgeries for my endometriosis and had been exploring alternative treatments and lifestyle changes, which had helped me reach a relatively stable place. My endo was in pretty good shape, symptom-wise. But new or persistent issues, including severe anxiety, facial and neck flushing, and histamine intolerance, began to take over my life — symptoms that are most likely due to my endometriosis (this is explained in greater detail within Endo Smart if you want to learn more). It's funny how writing these symptoms now, they seem so minor, but yet at the time. these words represented issues in my life that were a daily battle. They plagued me.
These struggles worsened over nearly three years, ultimately leading to me leaving my degree course in Dietetics and Nutrition. That decision was devastating, it meant walking away from a career I had spent three years dreaming of and working tirelessly toward. During lockdown, I had made the choice to return to university for a second degree so that I could learn more about the human body and eventually specialise in endometriosis. I wanted to help other women so much, and yet here I was, facing my breaking point where I felt I just couldn't go on.
Nevertheless, even though I didn’t get to finish that course, I had gained invaluable knowledge about the human body — knowledge that empowered me to understand medical papers and textbooks in a way I never would have without that education. And so, I found myself at the perfect moment to finally begin my project on endometriosis that I was so hungry to do. And what better way to study than by breaking everything down into essays — not only to ensure I truly understood the material but also this meant I could share the information with others. That’s when I made the easy decision to write a book. It gave me purpose, allowing me to achieve my dream of helping others struggling with endometriosis or simply those wanting to understand their disease better.
I became addicted to this project — I found it utterly fascinating. While it’s true that we still need much more research on endometriosis for countless reasons, I was amazed by how much research already existed. Of course, just because a study suggests that ‘X’ might help endometriosis or its symptoms doesn’t mean we should all rush to try it. High-quality research is essential before making medical recommendations. However, when multiple studies tell a similar story — especially about something harmless, like increasing broccoli or orange intake, then why isn’t this information readily available for people to utilise? Research takes years to complete, but people are struggling now. They shouldn’t have to wait a decade for potentially helpful information when there are safe, evidence-backed insights they could try today.
This became the foundation of my book, writing short, research-backed essays on topics that many people with endometriosis likely struggle with. I wanted it to be a one-stop resource for anyone navigating this disease, covering everything from how to get diagnosed to understanding different procedures, what they entail, and their potential benefits. Beyond that, I aimed to deepen the reader’s understanding of endometriosis in a way I had personally never been able to find elsewhere exploring symptoms, comorbidities, and the impact of the disease on everything from the nervous system to microbiology. The final section of the book focuses on managing endometriosis, beginning with medical procedures and medications before exploring lifestyle changes, including nutrition and movement. I also cover alternative treatment options, ranging from acupuncture to Botox. My goal was to provide as much information as possible without making the book ridiculously large.
I wanted to create something that anyone, regardless of where they are in their endo journey could still learn from. Each person’s needs vary immensely; some may be in remission and simply want to expand their knowledge, while others are struggling deeply, facing challenges that affect both their physical and mental health. I drew inspiration from the four pillars of health: movement, nutrition, sleep, and well-being. These pillars serve as a foundation for improving health, whether you’re looking to get your life back on track or maintain long-term wellness. From there, the reader is encouraged to set personal goals to help them feel their best.
Whether you’re searching for guidance on improving your quality of life or simply want to deepen your understanding of your body, Endo Smart has something for you.
I also want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who contributes to the endometriosis community — from researchers, doctors, surgeons, and nurses to the advocates who raise awareness on social media and support others within the community. This community is invaluable; it was the first place I turned to when I was diagnosed, as my doctors couldn’t answer many of my questions, and I didn’t know anyone else with the disease. The support, advice, and reassurance I found there were life-changing, reminding me that I wasn’t alone.
